## What are Gryz Tasks? [#what-are-gryz-tasks]

A Task is an owned unit of work with a status, a priority, and an assignee that is either the signed-in person or a named agent. Tasks can optionally file under a Project, link to Documents, Notes, and Memories, and break down into one level of subtasks. Every status change is recorded in an audit trail so both a person and an agent can see how a task got where it is.

Tasks is a free-with-account feature: a Free account gets up to 50 open (non-done, non-cancelled) tasks at once; Pro and Pro Plus are unlimited. See [plan limits](/docs/reference/accounts-and-plans/#complete-comparison).

## Work in the web app [#work-in-the-web-app]

In My Docs, `/my-docs/tasks/` lists your tasks under two tabs:

* **Active:** `open`, `in_progress`, `blocked`, and `human_review` (a bot pausing for a person to look something over before continuing)
* **Done:** `done` and `cancelled`

A new task always lands on Active, since it can never start out done. Filter either tab by assignee (anyone / assigned to me) or by Project. Create a task with just a title, or expand **More** for a description and a due date up front. Both can be added or edited later from the task's own page.

A task's own page has an inline-editable title and description (autosaves as you leave the field), one level of subtasks with a checkbox to mark each done, a due date, a Properties panel (status, priority, assignee, Project), and links to any Documents, Notes, or Memories you attach. If the task belongs to a Project, that Project's own Tasks tab shows a read-only roster of every agent label that has been assigned a task there. An agent appears the first time it is assigned one, with no separate step to add it.

Changes made from an AI assistant over MCP, such as a status flip, a new subtask or a linked document, show up in an open browser tab without a reload.

## Work with Tasks from an AI assistant [#work-with-tasks-from-an-ai-assistant]

After you [connect Gryz through MCP](/docs/mcp/setup/), an assistant can use four Task tools:

* `create_task` makes a new task, optionally as a subtask of one you own, with an optional due date.
* `list_tasks` finds your tasks, cursor-paginated, and leaves out cancelled tasks unless you pass `status: "cancelled"`; `assignee: "me"` (or `"agent"` from a token credential) filters to "what's on me."
* `get_task` fetches one task's full detail, including its recent status history and linked resources.
* `update_task` changes status, priority, assignee, title, description, due date, or task links.

<Tip>
  An agent credential can close (`done` or `cancelled`) a task only if it created that task, or if it is the task's own assignee. An agent that neither created nor is assigned to a task needs the assignee or a person to close it instead.
</Tip>

A task's title and body are shown to an assistant inside the same untrusted-data delimiter as a Memory or Note body. Text a bot or an inbound event wrote into a task is never treated as instructions, only as content.

See the [MCP tool reference](/docs/mcp/tools/#tasks-tools) for exact inputs, rate limits, and safety annotations.
