Chat with your documents from any AI tool

Import your Word files and notes, then ask ChatGPT or Claude about them. Gryz makes your library searchable from any AI tool, privately, with no setup.

You have years of notes, Word files and half-finished plans. You know the answer to "what did we agree with the contractor?" is in there somewhere.

AI tools are great at reading. But getting your own files in front of them usually means uploading the same PDF to every chat, or building something with a vector database and a weekend of code.

Gryz does that part for you. Put your documents in once, and any AI tool you connect can search them.

What you get

  • Import your files. Bring in .txt, .docx and .odt files, up to 20 at a time. Gryz turns each one into a private document you can read and edit.
  • Folders. Sort documents into folders, up to three levels deep. Folders help you find things. They never change who can read a document.
  • Search that understands you. Gryz finds the right passage by meaning and by exact words, across your documents, notes, saved memories and tasks.
  • From any AI tool. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client and it can search and open your documents for you.
  • Memory. Tell your assistant "remember that I prefer short answers" once, and every connected tool knows.
  • Download as PDF. When you're signed in, documents you can open have a Download as PDF button, and it's in each row's menu on the Documents page too. It uses your browser's print window, so choose "Save as PDF" there.

How it works, without the jargon

You don't set anything up. Behind the scenes:

  1. Gryz splits your documents into short passages.
  2. It prepares each passage for search, so a question like "deposit" can find a passage about "money we paid up front".
  3. When your AI tool asks a question, Gryz returns the best matching passages, each with a link back to the document.

That's retrieval, the thing people build with RAG pipelines. Here it's just how your library works.

Want to see what your AI would get? The Knowledge page runs a real search as you and shows why each result came back.

An example

Say you're renovating a kitchen. (A made-up example.)

  • You import the contractor's quote (a .docx), your notes from three site visits, and the email you pasted into a text file.
  • You file them in a folder called Home / Kitchen.
  • Weeks later, in ChatGPT, you ask: "What did the contractor say about the deposit, and when is the second payment due?"
  • ChatGPT searches your Gryz, finds the passage in the quote and the line in your notes, and answers with links to both.
  • You ask it to save a reminder as a task, and to remember the final budget.

No uploads in the chat. No copy and paste. Next time you ask Claude instead, it finds the same things.

Private by default

  • Imported documents are private. Only you can read them.
  • Gryz keeps the converted text, not the original file.
  • Search only returns what you can already open. Your connected AI tools search as you, with the same limits.
  • Your company never sees it. If you also use Gryz at work, a search in your Private space never returns company content, and company search never returns yours.
  • You choose what's searchable. Turn search off anytime, or leave out a single document, note or project.
  • Some things are never searchable: documents with a PIN, documents with an expiry date, and anything you leave out.

Honest limits

  • Your text is sent to Cloudflare to prepare it for search. Cloudflare is our AI provider. It says it doesn't train on your content. The results are stored in Gryz, not with Cloudflare. Details in How search works and where your data goes.
  • Text only. Markdown and HTML documents are searchable. Images aren't, and images, comments and footnotes in a Word file don't come across on import.
  • No PDF import yet. Import takes .txt, .docx and .odt. Save other formats as one of those first.
  • Size limits. Each document still has your plan's size limit, and very long documents are only searchable up to a point.
  • Read the passage. When nothing close is found, search says "no source found". A weak match can be on topic without holding the answer, so treat it as a lead.
  • Rolling out. Search, folders and import are rolling out, so they may not be on for your account yet.

Get started

  1. Connect Gryz to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex.
  2. On your Documents page, choose + New, then Import files.
  3. Ask your assistant a question only your documents can answer.
