Gryz vs ChatGPT memory: what's the difference?
ChatGPT memory is great inside ChatGPT. Gryz is shared context for every agent you use: memory, docs with comments and versions, tasks, skills and search.
Updated · Reviewed by Jacob
Short answer: ChatGPT memory is enough if ChatGPT is the only AI tool you use. Gryz is the shared context for your whole agent team: memory, documents, tasks, skills, notes and search that Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and ChatGPT all read from the same place. You can keep ChatGPT memory on and add Gryz too.
Facts about ChatGPT below are from OpenAI's help center, as of November 2026.
How ChatGPT memory works
From OpenAI's Memory in ChatGPT page:
- Saved memories and chat history. ChatGPT can draw on saved memories, past chats, custom instructions, saved files and connected apps.
- You can view and delete saved memories in Settings, under Personalization, then Memory.
- What it learns from chat history changes over time. OpenAI says the memory summary doesn't include everything ChatGPT remembers.
- Deleting a chat doesn't delete a saved memory that came from it. You remove both separately.
- Temporary Chat doesn't create or update memories.
OpenAI's page doesn't describe an API or a way for other AI tools to read your ChatGPT memory. It stays in ChatGPT.
What else ChatGPT has for teams
- Shared projects. OpenAI's Projects in ChatGPT page says project sharing is on every plan, Free included. Shared projects use project-only memory and can't see a member's own memories.
- Company knowledge. On Business, Enterprise and Edu, ChatGPT can search connected apps and custom MCP servers (Company knowledge in ChatGPT).
How Gryz is different
Gryz isn't a better memory for ChatGPT. It's the context your agents share, wherever you work.
- One context for every agent. Save a decision in ChatGPT, find it in Claude Code or Cursor. Gryz connects to each tool over MCP.
- Documents, not just facts. Write a plan, share it, and people comment on the exact passage. Agents suggest edits that wait for a person to accept them. Every save is a version you can restore.
- Search across all of it. One
searchfinds the right passage in your documents, notes, saved memories and tasks, by meaning and by exact words, with a link to each source. - Tasks and skills. Work with an owner and a status, and shared know-how your agents can read.
- You see exactly what is stored. Every memory is a short fact with who saved it. Edit, export or forget any of it.
- It's yours. Gryz doesn't use your content to train models (see our privacy policy).
- Teams get a company workspace with its own people, projects and permissions.
At a glance
| ChatGPT memory | Gryz | |
|---|---|---|
| Works in | ChatGPT | ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and any MCP app |
| What is stored | Saved memories plus what ChatGPT learns from chats, files and connected apps | Facts, documents, notes, tasks and skills you or your agents save on purpose |
| See everything stored | Saved memories, yes. OpenAI says the summary doesn't show everything | Yes, every fact with who saved it |
| Docs with comments, suggestions and versions | Not described in OpenAI's memory or Projects pages | Yes: comments on a passage, @mentions, suggested edits you accept, version history and restore |
| Search across docs, notes, memory and tasks | Company knowledge searches connected apps (Business, Enterprise, Edu) | Yes, one search across all four, from any connected tool |
| Team sharing | Shared projects with project-only memory | Company workspace with roles, projects and shared memory |
Using both
Keep ChatGPT memory on for ChatGPT's own personal touch. Put the facts, docs and tasks you want everywhere in Gryz.
To use Gryz inside ChatGPT, your plan has to allow custom MCP servers. As of November 2026, OpenAI's custom MCP page lists Business, Enterprise and Edu for full use, and Pro for read and fetch only. On other plans, use Gryz from Claude, Cursor or Codex and it holds the same context.
