Edit in the page
Press Edit on a Markdown document or an HTML page to change it right where you read it, with comments in view and a safe save that never overwrites someone else's work.

Editing in the page is on for everyone. You can also still change a document from the editor screen on your Documents page.
Answer first
Open a Markdown document you can change and press Edit at the top. The page becomes the editor: you type in the Markdown itself, it is styled as you go, and Save keeps your change as a new version. Comments stay on screen while you edit.
On an HTML page, Edit lets you change the words right on the page. See HTML pages.
Who can edit
- You, on your own documents
- People you shared the document with as Edit (see share roles)
- Company members who are not read only, on company documents
Everyone else sees no Edit button. Editing in the page works on Markdown documents and HTML pages. Other types (SVG, CSV, JSON, Mermaid) are edited from the editor screen on your Documents page.
What editing looks like
- You edit the Markdown, with a live preview. Headings, bold and lists look the way they will read. The Markdown symbols tuck away when your cursor is elsewhere and come back on the line you are editing.
- Every document opens as it is. Tables, front matter, footnotes, raw HTML and images all open in the page. Images and raw HTML show as their Markdown while you edit. A table shows as a table until you click into it. Front matter folds into a Properties row.
- Nothing changes unless you change it. Opening a document and pressing Cancel saves nothing. Typing one word changes only that word, so History shows exactly what you did.
- A toolbar for the basics: Bold, Italic, Heading 1 to 3, bulleted, numbered and task lists, Link, Undo, Redo, and Show Markdown symbols to see every symbol at once. Shortcuts: Ctrl or Cmd with B (bold), I (italic) and K (link).
- More options opens the full editor screen, with file upload, History, suggestions and agent settings.
Saving
- Save is a button. There is no autosave. While you type, Gryz keeps a draft on this device, so a closed tab or a refresh doesn't lose your words. If nobody saved the document in the meantime, reopening the editor brings your draft back.
- Cancel asks first if you have changes that are not saved.
- Size limit. A counter shows the document's size against its plan limit. Over the limit, Save is turned off.
- Every save is a new version. See Version history to compare or restore.
When someone else saved first
Gryz never overwrites someone else's change.
- If you changed different parts, Gryz combines the two and tells you who else made changes. Look it over, then save.
- If you both changed the same lines, Gryz shows each one and you pick Keep mine, Keep theirs or Keep both.
Comments while you edit
- Open threads stay highlighted in the text. Click a highlight to bring its comment forward.
- Highlights follow the text. Type above a commented passage and the highlight stays on it. If you delete the passage, the comment says the passage changed.
- Reply, resolve and reopen work as usual. To comment on a new passage, save first.
- On a phone, the comments button in the toolbar opens the comments sheet.
See Comments and notifications for how threads work.
HTML pages
On an HTML page, Edit lets you fix words right where they sit on the page. The layout stays exactly as it is.
Change the words
- Open the HTML page and press Edit at the top.
- Click any text on the page and type.
- Press Save. The bar at the top counts the changes you haven't saved yet.
Words only
- You change words, not the design. Headings, paragraphs, lists and table cells all take new words.
- Some changes need Source view. New lines, bold or other formatting, links, images, styles and moving things around. If you try one of these, Gryz tells you and points you to Source view, the full editor on your Documents page.
- One piece of text at a time. Text in a different style or block can't be changed together.
Saving
- Save writes only what you changed. Gryz swaps in your new words and leaves every other part of the page exactly as it was.
- Every save is a new version, so you can compare or restore it in Version history.
- Your typing is kept on this device until you save. If something goes wrong, Copy my text gets your words back.
- Cancel asks first if you have changes that aren't saved.
- If someone saved first, Gryz still saves your words as long as they didn't change the text you edited or any text above it on the page. Otherwise nothing is saved and you keep your words to copy.
Pages with scripts
On pages that run scripts (charts, tabs, little apps), Edit points you to Source view for now. Editing their words on the page would mean turning their scripts off, and that could break them.
Comments while you edit
- Open comments stay on the page. Commented passages are underlined, and highlighted while the comments panel is open. Click one to bring its comment forward.
- If you change a commented passage, its comment says so. Gryz checks it again when you save.
- Reply, resolve and reopen work as usual. To comment on a new passage, save first.
- On a phone, the comments button in the top bar opens the comments sheet.
Fonts while you edit
While you edit, Gryz doesn't load fonts from other websites, so the page may look a little different until you're done. That keeps what you type private. Fonts built into the page itself still show.
