Version history and assistant permissions
How Gryz keeps earlier versions of your documents, how long each plan keeps them, how to undo a change, and how to control what connected assistants may do.

Answer first
Gryz saves a new version every time the text of a signed-in document changes, whether you changed it in the editor or a connected assistant did. You can see who changed what, compare it with the version before, and restore any version that is still kept. Restoring never deletes anything: it saves the old text as a new version, so you can undo the undo.
Anonymous documents expire after 24 hours and keep no history.
What is kept, by plan
| Plan | Versions kept per document | How long | History space |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free account | 25 | 30 days | 12.8 MB |
| Pro | 100 | 90 days | 25.6 MB |
| Pro Plus | 100 | 90 days | 51.2 MB |
History space is the total across all your documents. It is your plan's document size limit times 500, so it grows with your plan.
When you reach the limit, Gryz removes the oldest versions across your documents to make room. The current text of a document is never removed or blocked, the change you just made still saves, and the History panel shows "Older versions were removed to stay within your history space." If you move to a smaller plan, the smaller space applies the next time versions are cleaned up, oldest first.
Restoring a version checks your current plan's size limit. If an older version is larger than your plan allows today, it cannot be restored until you trim it or upgrade.
See and undo changes
Open a document from your dashboard and choose Edit. Under the editor you will see Document Version with the current version (for example V3). Choose View History to open the list of versions. Each one shows who made it (you, or the name of the connected app), what they did, how much it changed the size, and when. Choose Show changes to see the difference, or Restore this version and confirm to bring it back. Your current text is kept, so you can undo a restore.
If the document changes while you have the editor open (in another tab, or by a connected assistant), saving is refused instead of overwriting it. Reload the page to see the latest version, then make your edit again.
Assistants can do the same with list_document_revisions and restore_document_revision. See the MCP tools reference.
Control what assistants can do
Each document has a setting under the history panel, What assistants can do here:
- Can edit (the default): connected assistants can change the document directly. Every change is saved in the history.
- Suggestions only: assistants can propose changes. Nothing changes until you accept a suggestion under Suggested changes on the edit page. You can accept or reject each one and see exactly what it would change first.
- Read only: assistants can read the document but cannot change it or suggest changes.
Only you can change this setting and only you can accept or reject a suggestion. Assistants cannot do either, and there is no tool for it. If you switch a document to read only after a suggestion arrived, accepting it is refused until you switch it back.
Your own edits in the web editor are never blocked by this setting.
Changes from two places at once
If an assistant and you change the same document at the same time, Gryz keeps both versions in the history. Assistants can ask Gryz to refuse a change when the document has moved on, or to combine their edit with newer changes when they touch different sections. If the same section changed, nothing is combined and the assistant is told which sections clash.
