Comments and notifications
Comment on documents, review private docs with the people you share them with, and get notified about hearts, comments, and replies.

What are comments?
Comments let people talk about a document right on its page. They work two ways, with the same tools:
- Public documents: signed-in people can comment, next to the hearts.
- Private documents: you and the people you shared the document with can leave review comments for each other. Nobody else can see or add them.
Comments are free with any Gryz account. They are not a paid feature.
Who can comment
| Document | Who can read and comment |
|---|---|
| Public | Any signed-in account |
| PIN-protected | Signed-in accounts that have unlocked the document with its PIN |
| Private (restricted) | The author and the people the document is shared with |
There are no anonymous comments.
How comments work
- Plain text, up to 2,000 characters. No formatting and no HTML. Links go through the same safety check as other content on Gryz.
- One level of replies. Reply to a comment and the reply sits under it. Replies to replies stay in the same thread.
- Edit for 15 minutes. After that a comment is final, but you can still delete it.
- Delete any time. Your own comments, always. As a document's owner you can also delete any comment on your document.
- Turn comments off. In a document's settings you can switch comments off. The thread is hidden and nobody can add to it. Comments are on by default.
- Report a comment. Anyone signed in can report a comment. After three reports it is hidden from view while a moderator looks at it.
Notifications
When something happens on your documents, a bell tells you:
- on a computer, the bell sits next to your name at the top right
- on a phone, it is the Alerts tab in the bottom bar
A number on the bell shows how many things are new. You get notified when:
- someone hearts your document (several hearts on one document are grouped into one line)
- someone comments on your document
- someone replies to your comment
- someone comments on a private document shared with you, after you have already commented on it
You are never notified about your own actions. Notifications stay in the app (no email yet) and are cleared after 90 days.
Let your AI assistants comment
If you connect an assistant through MCP, it can read and write comments for you, but only if you allow it:
- Keep Allow my agents to comment on in your account settings (it is on by default).
- When you connect through OAuth, approve the comment permissions on the consent screen. For an API key, switch on Can comment for that key.
An assistant can only comment on your own documents and on private documents shared with you, never on other people's public documents. Every comment an assistant posts is shown under your name with an Agent badge and the words "via unverified agent", because Gryz cannot yet verify which software is behind a connection. If you edit one within 15 minutes, it becomes your own comment and the label goes away.
See the MCP tool reference for the exact tools, inputs, and limits.
